Welcome back to Behind Bella. Today, we are opening the doors to our London studio to introduce you to the heart and soul of our design process.
It’s easy to look at a beautiful dress and just see fabric and stitching. But as your Empathetic Stylist, I know that every garment carries the energy of the people who created it. At Bella plus London, our designs begin with empathy, led by our Head of Design, Chloe.
Chloe isn't just a designer; she is an architect of comfort and confidence. Working from our studio overlooking the bustling streets of East London, she draws inspiration from the city's unique blend of timeless elegance and modern energy.
We sat down with Chloe to ask about her philosophy for the newest collection.
"For too long," Chloe explains, "plus-size fashion was about 'covering up.' My mission is to flip that script entirely. I don't design to hide; I design to celebrate the architecture of a woman’s body. I want to trace her curves in a way that makes her feel powerful."
What makes Chloe’s approach different is her obsession with the sensorial experience of clothing. She doesn't just sketch a design and send it off. She spends hours testing fabrics against the skin, ensuring they have that luxurious, soft-touch feel.
"The most crucial part of my day is the fitting session," she says. "We don't just fit on static mannequins. We fit on real, dynamic women with different body shapes. We ask: 'Can you sit comfortably in this all day?' 'Does the sleeve pull when you reach for your coffee?' If the answer is no, we go back to the drawing board."
